Short answer: I'm Rahil Jain. Dharohar is Meru Gifting's initiative connecting corporate buyers to 4,000+ artisan families across 25+ Indian states — Moradabad metalwork, Pichwai painting, Bidri, Kashmiri papier-mâché and more — turning sustainable corporate gifts into a livelihood pipeline, not just a purchase order.
Updated September 2026.

Why did I start Dharohar in the first place?
Because I kept seeing the same gap. Companies wanted "meaningful" gifts, not another branded pen, but the supply chain for genuinely handcrafted Indian pieces was scattered, slow and hard for a corporate buyer to access directly. On the other side, artisan families I'd met through Meru Trophy's 25 years in this industry had extraordinary skill and inconsistent, seasonal income. Dharohar was my attempt to connect the two properly — not as a one-off CSR gesture, but as a repeatable, scalable sourcing model.
How does Dharohar actually work, craft by craft?
We work with artisan clusters across the country, each specialising in a distinct craft: Moradabad brass and metal, Dhokra lost-wax casting from Chhattisgarh, Pichwai painting from Nathdwara, Bidri inlay from Bidar, Banaras lacquerware and brocade, Kashmiri papier-mâché, Khurja pottery, Pattachitra from Odisha, Madhubani and Warli painting, Kishangarh miniature art, Meenakari on marble, Jaipur stone carving, Ajrakh block print, Tussar silk from Bhagalpur, and terracotta and Kagzi pottery. Each order we place goes to the cluster that actually makes that craft — we don't relabel factory goods as "artisanal".
Moradabad brass and metalwork, Dhokra casting and Bidri inlay produce our diyas, tealight holders, tree-of-life showpieces and recognition plaques — pieces like the Manorath Wish-Fulfilling Metal Tree Showpiece.
Pichwai, Pattachitra, Madhubani and Ajrakh artisans produce framed art, wall scrolls and printed textile pieces — each one carries the visual language of its region, not a generic "Indian" motif.
Khurja and Kagzi potters and Jaipur stone carvers produce vases, decor plates and carved trophies — slower to produce than metal pieces, but built to last generations.

What does "4,000+ artisan families" actually mean in practice?
It means our order volume, however small an individual corporate order might feel to a large company, connects directly to household income for artisans across those 25+ states. A 50-piece order of Kalam Daan pen holders isn't a rounding error to the Moradabad metalworking family who made them — it's real, dignified work. I don't romanticise this; it's also a business relationship with quality expectations on both sides. But the scale matters, and I think about it every time someone tells me a gift budget is "too small to bother with artisanal pieces". It rarely is.
Does sourcing this way slow down delivery?
Yes, and I'm upfront about it. Branded factory items ship in our standard 7-15 working days; genuinely handcrafted Dharohar pieces take longer because artisans work in batches, not on-demand assembly lines. For time-sensitive orders, I recommend confirming your Dharohar picks 4-6 weeks ahead, same as Diwali timelines. If you need something in a week, we'll be honest that artisanal pieces might not be the right fit for that specific deadline — even though I'd love every order to go this route.

How do I answer buyers who ask if this is just marketing?
Fairly, I think. I'd say: judge us by whether the craft on the page matches what's inside the box, and whether the price reflects real hand-work, not a markup on a factory import. We don't claim every product on Meru Gifting is Dharohar — our tech and diary ranges are conventional branded merchandise, priced accordingly. Dharohar is specifically the artisanal-mementos side of the catalogue, and I'd rather under-claim than over-claim what a craft story means.
What do I tell a company that wants to combine Dharohar with branded merchandise?
That it works well, and we do it often — details anonymised, but representative: a leadership gifting order might pair a branded diary for daily use with a single Dharohar showpiece as the "keep forever" piece in the same hamper. It gives a gift both function and meaning without doubling the budget, since the artisanal piece can anchor the box while smaller branded items round it out.
