Diwali Corporate Hampers for Clients: My Tiering Framework

Short answer: My tiering framework for Diwali corporate hampers for clients uses three tiers — relationship, strategic and top-account — priced ₹899 to ₹12,999 per person, so every client gets a hamper proportionate to the relationship. At Meru Gifting we set this up every September, and it removes the guesswork from a hundred individual gifting decisions.

What's my tiering framework for Diwali corporate hampers for clients?

I split every client list into three tiers before touching the catalogue: relationship (regular contacts, larger volume), strategic (accounts that matter but aren't yet top-tier), and top-account (the handful of relationships that carry real revenue). Each tier gets a hamper price band, not a fixed item — this way the choice of piece can flex year to year while the signal stays consistent. Skipping this step is the single biggest reason Diwali gifting ends up either overspent on low-priority contacts or underspent on the accounts that matter most.

Why tier clients at all instead of sending the same hamper to everyone?

Because a flat hamper either wastes budget on relationship contacts or shortchanges your top accounts — you can't win both ways with one price point. I've seen companies spend their entire Diwali budget on 500 identical ₹1,500 hampers and have nothing left to properly acknowledge the five accounts that actually drive the business. Tiering fixes that by design: you decide the split before you shop, not after the budget runs out.

What does each tier actually look like — the framework in a table

Here's the exact structure I use with clients, adaptable to your own headcounts.

Tier Who ₹/person Typical build
Relationship Regular vendors, wide contact list ₹899–₹1,999 Brass diya set or lotus tealight holder + diary
Strategic Growing accounts, mid-tier relationships ₹1,999–₹5,999 Meenakari keepsake or leather stationery + festive box
Top-account Key revenue relationships, leadership contacts ₹5,999–₹12,999 Full showpiece (mandala, metal tree) + premium hamper box

How do I decide the ratio between tiers?

Most companies I work with split roughly 70% relationship, 20% strategic, 10% top-account by headcount — but the budget split looks very different, closer to 40/30/30, because the top tier costs so much more per person. I always ask for the client list sorted by account value first; the tiering framework only works if the sorting happens before the catalogue browsing does. Otherwise everyone drifts toward "let's just pick something nice" and the budget discipline disappears.

Which tier does your client list need?

Answer honestly and I'll suggest a starting build.

Find the right Diwali hamper tier

How would you describe this client relationship?

Relationship tier: ₹899–₹1,999 per person. The Kamal Lotus Tealight Holder at ₹499 with a diary works well at scale.

Strategic tier: ₹1,999–₹5,999 per person. The Kalangi Samman Meenakari Keepsake at ₹2,999 fits well.

Top-account tier: ₹5,999–₹12,999 per person. Consider the Anant Chakra Mandala or the Manorath Metal Tree.

How do you plan the budget across all three tiers at once?

Estimate per tier, then add them up — the calculator below does the per-person maths for one tier at a time.

What did a real tiered rollout look like?

Details anonymised, figures representative of similar orders we fulfil: a Bangalore financial services client had roughly 400 external contacts and a fixed Diwali budget. We split them 280 relationship, 90 strategic, 30 top-account. The relationship tier got the brass lotus tealight holder, the strategic tier got the Meenakari keepsake, and the top 30 got the mandala showpiece with a premium box. Total spend stayed within their original budget because the relationship tier absorbed the volume at a lower per-person cost, freeing money for the 30 relationships that mattered most.

When should I start ordering to hit Diwali on time?

Place your order 4–6 weeks before Diwali, earlier if the top tier uses bespoke artisanal pieces since those production slots fill first. Standard branded hampers take 7–15 working days once artwork is approved, but festive demand compresses that window across the whole industry, so I'd rather you order early and hold stock than order late and compromise on the tier structure.

Are tiered client hampers GST compliant?

Yes, every hamper order gets a GST invoice regardless of tier, and we're a GeM-registered vendor for government-linked accounts. Client hampers are business gifts, not employee perquisites, so the ₹5,000 employee exemption under Rule 3(7)(iv) doesn't apply here — that rule is specific to employees. GST input tax credit on gifts is blocked under Section 17(5)(h) of the CGST Act regardless of who receives them. Confirm the specifics with your CA before finalising.

How many tiers should a client hamper programme have?

Three works for most companies — relationship, strategic, top-account. Larger enterprises sometimes add a fourth tier for a small circle of board-level relationships.

Can the same hamper box be used across tiers with a different centrepiece?

Yes, this keeps presentation consistent while the per-person cost still varies by centrepiece — a common request we accommodate.

What's the minimum order for a tiered Diwali programme?

MOQ is 50 pieces per branded item, so each tier needs at least 50 recipients for custom branding; smaller top-tier batches can use unbranded artisanal pieces instead.

How early should top-tier bespoke pieces be ordered?

4–6 weeks before Diwali at minimum, since bespoke and artisanal production slots are the first to fill during festive season.
