The Diwali Rush: What Happens Inside Our Bangalore Studio in October

Short answer: Every October, our Bangalore studio runs on a different clock: corporate Diwali gifts orders that should have landed in August arrive as "urgent" briefs, and my team packs, checks and dispatches thousands of hampers in a six-week sprint. I'm Rahil Jain, founder of Meru Gifting — here's what actually happens behind the diyas and gift boxes.

Updated September 2026.

Why does October feel so different at Meru Gifting?

Because roughly a third of our year's corporate Diwali gifts orders land in a six-week window between mid-September and Diwali itself. I've watched this pattern repeat for years: a company decides in August it "should get started soon", pushes it to a Friday afternoon meeting, and by the time the brief reaches us it's the first week of October with a delivery date three weeks out. My studio on SC Road doesn't stop being calm — but the whiteboard behind my desk fills up fast, and every table is covered in tissue paper, ribbon spools and open cartons of diyas.

What does a typical October morning look like in the studio?

It starts with the previous night's WhatsApp messages — usually five or six new briefs waiting by 9 AM. My team splits into three lines: sourcing (confirming stock on brass diyas, tealight sets and hamper boxes), packing (assembling and quality-checking each hamper by hand), and dispatch (matching courier slips to company delivery lists, sometimes running into hundreds of individual home addresses for remote teams). I walk the floor twice a day. If a batch of terracotta diyas has a hairline crack, it gets pulled before it's boxed — I'd rather explain a two-day delay than let a damaged piece reach someone's desk.

Why do I keep telling clients "you're already late" in September?

Because a Diwali order isn't one step, it's five: confirming the brief, sourcing or producing at MOQ 50, a mock-up approval round, bulk production or hamper assembly, and a multi-city dispatch. Even at our fastest, that's 4-6 weeks end to end for a branded or hamper order — longer if you want artisanal pieces from our Dharohar network, since those are made by hand in workshops across the country, not pulled off a shelf. I'd rather say this plainly in an article than in a rushed phone call: if you're reading this in September, you're on time; if it's mid-October, we can still help, but your choices shrink to what's already in stock.

Diwali gifting readiness checklist

What's the timeline I actually recommend, week by week?

I break it into four stages, and I tell every buyer the same thing whether they're ordering 60 pieces or 6,000.

Finalise budget band, pick 2-3 hamper options, share headcount and any custom branding. This is when artisanal Dharohar pieces need to be committed — hand-crafted items can't be rushed the way factory-branded ones can.

Approve the mock-up, lock quantities, confirm PO and GST details. This is also when we can still absorb small quantity changes without derailing dispatch.

Production and hamper assembly run daily. Dispatch begins in batches by city so the first deliveries land 4-5 days before Diwali, not on the day itself.

What goes wrong most often in October, and how do we fix it?

Two things, almost every year. First, someone realises mid-order that they need 30 more pieces than planned — we absorb this where stock allows, but it can push a delivery date by a few days. Second, addresses for home delivery arrive incomplete or in a format that doesn't match our courier partners' fields; we've built a simple spreadsheet template specifically to stop this, and I insist every large order uses it. Details anonymised, but this is representative: a 400-person order once nearly missed Diwali because addresses arrived as a scanned PDF — we retyped every one of them overnight rather than let it slip.

Why do I still enjoy this month after 14 years?

Because it's the one time of year I can walk through the studio and see, physically, what "corporate gifting" means — not a line item on a spreadsheet, but hundreds of hands checking, wrapping and boxing pieces that someone will unwrap at their desk or dining table. It's exhausting, and I wouldn't trade it. If you're planning a Diwali order, the earlier you talk to us, the more of this care goes into it — because rushed work is where quality slips, and that's the one thing I won't compromise on in October.

Planning your Diwali gifting order?

Tell us your headcount and date on WhatsApp — I'll tell you honestly whether your timeline works.

When should I place my corporate Diwali gift order?

4-6 weeks before Diwali, ideally by early-to-mid September, especially for branded or artisanal Dharohar pieces.

Can Meru Gifting still help if I'm ordering in October?

Yes, but your options will lean toward items already in stock; custom branding and artisanal pieces need more lead time.

What is the minimum order quantity for Diwali corporate gifts?

MOQ is 50 pieces for branded items; artisanal or unbranded Diwali pieces can be ordered in smaller quantities.

Can Diwali hampers be delivered to employees' homes across India?

Yes, we deliver pan-India to 25+ states; large orders need a complete, correctly formatted address list.
